Project Management
Managers
handle projects in any organizational setting. The scope of these projects may
vary from as small as changing equipment in a process to developing and
launching new products (whether be software, automobiles or commodity products)
to managing space missions. Managing these projects includes some common
concepts and approaches that constitute the inter-disciplinary field of project
management. Project management integrates organizational effort (finance, HR,
operations, R&D etc.) in order to deliver and better manage projects of any
scope and scale.
The nature of
projects is such that they have three dimensional objective (performance, cost
and time) to be met within budgeted resources. At the same time projects have
lifecycle that include stages such as planning, resourcing, organizing, monitoring & control, assessing
risk and project shut
down. This course will expose students to the peculiarities of project
management, and impart to them an appreciation for the complexities involved in
managing them.
