Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Cook/Cleaner.

Overall purpose of the role:

The Cook/Cleaner is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained office/Guest House environment, as well as preparing meals and refreshments as required. The role supports the smooth day-to-day functioning of the office/Guest House by maintaining hygiene standards and providing basic hospitality services

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaner duties:

·         Replenish washroom supplies on a regular basis.

·         Ensure water dispensers are refilled and maintained

·         Collect used service items from offices, meeting rooms, and common areas.

·         Empty dustbins daily and ensure all waste is disposed of hygienically.

·         Clean the compound, including removal of garbage, leaves, and debris.

·         Clean windows, windowsills, shelves, cupboards, and other surfaces

·         Dust and wipe desks, tables, chairs, shelves, and other office furniture.

·         Ensure all office areas, washrooms, kitchen areas, and common spaces are kept clean and hygienic.

·         Dispose of waste safely and in line with office procedures.

Cook duties

·         Clean food preparation areas daily, including in the morning and afternoon.

·         Prepare meals, tea, coffee, soft drinks, or juices for staff, guests, and guesthouse residents as required.

·         Ensure food is prepared hygienically and served at the appropriate temperature.

·         Prepare food in a timely manner before the arrival of staff, guests, or guesthouse residents

·         Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment after each meal.

·         Adjust food preparation was required to accommodate specific dietary needs.

·         Support weekly shopping and ordering of kitchen supplies, as required.

·         Safely operate kitchen appliances such as blenders, ovens, grills, and mixers

·         Portion, arrange, and serve food according to staff or guesthouse resident needs.

Skills and qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience:  

• Basic literacy skill (reading and writing)
• At least 2 years’ experience in similar position.
• Ability to communicate in both English and Somali
• Ability to read and understand cleaning product directions
• Completion of Secondary School
