Job Purpose;

The General Manager is responsible for providing overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of Baraka Takaful Insurance. The role ensures that the company operates efficiently, profitably, and in full compliance with Shariah principles, regulatory requirements, and corporate governance standards.

The General Manager leads business growth, strengthens internal systems, develops people, manages risks, and ensures excellent service delivery to policyholders while safeguarding the company’s financial stability and reputation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

  •   Provide overall leadership and direction for the company’s operations, strategy, and performance.
  • Develop and implement company-wide strategies, policies, and operational plans aligned with Baraka Takaful’s mission and Shariah values.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations across all departments to ensure efficiency, accountability, and compliance.
  • Lead recruitment, performance management, and retention of senior management and key staff.
  • Develop, manage, and control the company’s annual budgets and financial plans in collaboration with the finance team.
  •   Ensure sound underwriting, claims management, and risk management practices in line with Takaful principles.
  • Ensure full compliance with local and international insurance regulations, Takaful standards, and Shariah governance requirements.
  • Work closely with the Shariah advisors/committee to ensure products, operations, and investments remain Shariah-compliant.
  • Strengthen customer relations by improving service quality, policyholder engagement, and resolution of escalated complaints.
  • Identify market opportunities, partnerships, and growth strategies to expand the company’s market share.
  • ü  Collaborate with sales, marketing, underwriting, claims, finance, and IT teams to align operations with overall business goals.
  • Oversee technology integration and digital transformation initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging risks, and innovations in insurance and Islamic finance.
  • Manage relationships with regulators, investors, board members, and external stakeholders.
  • Promote a strong organizational culture based on integrity, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  •   Build staff capacity through training, professional development, and leadership mentoring programs.

Skills and qualifications

Requirements:

  •  Educational Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Insurance, or related field.
  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Islamic Finance, or Insurance is a strong advantage.
  •   Professional qualifications or certifications in Islamic Finance, Takaful, Insurance, or Risk Management are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a senior management or leadership role within Takaful, insurance, Islamic banking, or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of Takaful operations, Shariah principles, underwriting, claims, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, financial management, and organizational leadership.
  • Experience working with boards, regulators, and external stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision into practical action.
  • Sound knowledge of Islamic finance and Takaful business models.
  •   Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  •   Financial and analytical skills with a strong focus on sustainability and risk management.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical judgment.
  • Ability to manage change and lead organizational growth.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Results-oriented mindset with attention to quality and compliance.
