TERMS OF REFERENCE (TOR)
Position Title: Plastic Factory Electrician
Job Function: Plastic Machines, Extrusion Blow Molding Machines and Mold Maintenance
Department: Engineering / Maintenance
Duty Station: Hargeisa, Somaliland
Reports To: General Manager.
Contract Type: Full-time / Permanent
Expected qualifications: Bachelor/Diploma of Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Electro-Mechanic Engineering, and other relevant engineer qualifications. Years of work experience matter.
1. Background
Tayo Plastic Factory (www.tayoplastic.com, www.facebook.com/Tayo Plastic Factory, ) operates a range of plastic production machines, including injection molding machines, extrusion blow molding machines, crushers, mixers, dryers, chillers, and compressors. These machines require continuous electrical reliability to ensure uninterrupted production of high-quality plastic products such as bottles, jerrycans, containers, and molded items. This position is created to ensure complete electrical maintenance and control reliability across all production lines.
2. Purpose of the Role
To ensure the efficient, safe, and reliable electrical operation of all plastic processing machines and auxiliary equipment through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical improvement.
The success factors for a plastic factory electrician combine technical expertise, preventive maintenance discipline, safety awareness, and adaptability to production environments.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Maintenance and Troubleshooting
• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on all electrical and control systems of:
o Injection Molding Machines (IMM)
o Extrusion Blow Molding Machines (EBM)
o Auxiliary systems (chillers, dryers, heaters, air compressors, mixers, grinders).
• Diagnose and repair faults in:
o Heaters, thermocouples, and sensors.
o Electrical motors, contactors, relays, overloads, VFDs, and soft starters.
o PLC systems, temperature controllers, and timers.
o Electrical control panels and wiring harnesses.
• Perform real-time troubleshooting during production to minimize downtime.
• Ensure temperature control accuracy on both injection and blow units.
B. Installation
• Support installation of new injection or extrusion blow machines, including control panels,
wiring, and calibration.
• Configure temperature zones, heaters, and control circuits according to process requirements.
• Assist in integrating new machines with power distribution systems, compressors, and cooling lines.
C. Preventive Maintenance Program
• Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all machines and assist in the development of preventive maintenance systems/devices.
• Inspect heaters, thermocouples, limit switches, proximity sensors, and electrical cabinets monthly.
• Replace worn-out electrical components before failure occurs.
• Maintain detailed machine maintenance logs (date, issue, corrective action, spare parts used, technician name).
• Report repeated electrical issues for root-cause analysis.
D. Energy and System Optimization
• Monitor power consumption and energy efficiency of heaters and motors.
• Recommend improvements such as VFD installation or load balancing to reduce power costs.
• Support the Maintenance Manager in projects for solar power integration or energy-saving automation.
E. Safety and Compliance
• Ensure all electrical work complies with IEC standards and factory safety regulations.
• Implement and maintain Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance.
• Conduct regular safety inspections of electrical systems.
• Keep proper grounding and insulation across machines.
• Maintain fire and electrical safety readiness.
F. Technical Support and Coordination
• Support machine operators in understanding basic machine electrical functions and alarms.
• Coordinate with mechanical technicians during joint repairs or overhauls.
• Provide technical input during procurement of electrical spare parts.

Skills and qualifications

4. Required Qualifications and Experience
• Diploma or Certificate in Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in plastic injection manufacturing or extrusion blow molding factories.
• Strong technical knowledge of:
o Electrical wiring, schematics, and industrial control systems.
o Extrusion blow molding and injection machine control panels.
o PLC, VFDs, thermocouples, heaters, SSRs, and sensors.
o 3-phase power distribution, star-delta systems, and overload protection.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
5. Competencies and Attributes
• Analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Teamwork and clear communication with production and maintenance staff.
• Ability to work under pressure and tight production schedules.
• Commitment to safety, cleanliness, and preventive maintenance culture.
• Strong documentation and reporting discipline.
• Strong integrity and respect to local cultures (mixing with women or involvement in prostitution is strictly forbidden and can cause immediate dismissal).

This TOR is valid for the duration of employment and will be reviewed annually to align with new
machinery, technologies, and safety standards.
