 Position:Finance & Operations Assistant

Institution: Burao Academy, Burao, Sovmaliland
Location: On-Campus Burao Academy

Position Summary:
Burao Academy seeks a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance & Operations Assistant to support the financial administration and operational efficiency of the school. This position plays a dual role in managing financial records and coordinating day-to-day non-academic operations. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and committed to supporting the mission of delivering high-quality STEM education in Somaliland.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management (50%)
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping of all school financial transactions.
· Reconcile monthly bank statements and prepare financial summaries.
· Support tuition collection processes, including recordkeeping, tracking payments, and communicating with parents or guardians.
· Assist with preparing financial reports for school leadership and external partners.
· Support internal and external audits by maintaining organized financial documentation.
· Work with the school president in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
· Manage petty cash disbursements and ensure proper recording.
Operations Support (50%)
· Oversee and supervise non-academic staff, including cooks, drivers, janitors, maintenance workers, security guards, and others.
· Oversee procurement of supplies and services, including food, fuel, school maintenance, and equipment.
· Maintain inventory records for school supplies and assets.
· Coordinate facility maintenance and report needs to leadership for timely repairs or improvements.
· Implement and monitor operational procedures to ensure safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
· Support logistical planning for school events, student services, and guest visits.
· Collaborate with teaching and administrative staff to ensure seamless daily operations.
· Assist in teaching or classroom supervision if required, depending on school needs.

Skills and qualifications

Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
· Minimum 2 years of professional experience in bookkeeping, operations, or office administration preferred.
· Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software is an advantage.
· Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality.
· Willingness to take initiative and assume a wide range of responsibilities.
· Must be willing to live on campus and participate in the school community.
· Previous experience in a school or nonprofit setting is a plus.
· Fluency in English and Somali is highly desirable.
