Brief Introduction
GIZ has been in
operation in Somalia since 1964 as commissioned by the German government and
has project offices in seven locations across the country. The current thematic
priority areas for the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and
Development (BMZ) are in the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies,
transformation of agri-food systems and support to economic development,
training and employment.
The goal of GIZ is
to support the capacity development of people, organisations, and institutional
structures in the partner countries to enable them to improve their living
conditions. The GIZ project portfolio in Somalia has significantly increased
over the last few years. The structure of the portfolio is comprehensive, with
dynamic modes of implementation adapted to the changing environment in the
country. The main commissioning party is BMZ, however, some of the projects are
